Flame Pharma are currently working with one of the largest Clinical Research Organisations in the world to recruit a Director of Project Management to be based in Paris.

Background

As one of the World’s largest Clinical Research Organisations , they deliver a full range of services and solutions through its worldwide offices. They are now working with Flame Pharma to recruit a Director of Project Management.
Key Responsibilities
- To lead, manage, mentor and support PACE Project Managers (PM) to ensure that the company delivers quality projects to its clients and achieves or exceeds project margins.
- Provides project management expertise to the Project Managers.
- Manage human resources within the Project Management group and ensure the adequate staffing to meet the business needs.
- Guide ongoing training, career development, and line management process within PACE EU PM group.
- Liaise with Business Management and other Functional Heads to continually assess and improve processes and quality with PACE Project Management group.
- Contribute to strategy and business planning activities of PACE CRU, including annual planning cycle and development of business plans.
- Participate in client meetings and presentations; represent the company at marketing/new business meetings, and professional meetings.
Resourcing
- Deploy efficient and appropriate resources in order to meet client requirements and internal business needs e.g. total labour costs, utilisation and billability.
- Recruit and retain appropriate staff in line with budget and forecast. Develop resource plan and hiring strategy together with PACE Business Management.
- Maintain and continuously improve agreed level of productivity/billability and staff turnover in line with the budget and forecast.
- Ensure appropriate transition of projects requiring a Project Manager change.
Quality
- Ensure Project Managers are compliant with SOPs and company Project Management Process Flow.
- Review Project Manager tools (e.g. project plan) to assure they are being used effectively.
- Ensure Project Managers take appropriate follow-up of remedial and subsequent corrective action and closure to audit findings. Take proactive steps to assure follow through for current work.
- Work proactively with PM QMG to identify areas for process improvements, based on client, team feedback and quality assurance audits.
Career planning, Development and Training
- Ensure Project Managers have been given the right training at the right time in line with the Project Managers core curriculum and additional PACE Project Managers trainings - as defined in the PACE Project Managers curriculum.
- Undertake the full range of duties relevant to the leadership, management and development of the team to ensure that their performance meets and/or exceeds both the business and their own personal goals/objectives.
- Ensure the timely completion of the performance management process using the global tool.
- Participate in the formal review processes e.g. performance and salary reviews to Corporate standards and timescales.
- Maintain a positive, results-oriented work environment, building partnerships and modelling teamwork, communicating to the team in an open, balanced and objective manner.
Project Deliverables
- Supports Project Managers in ensuring Projects achieve or exceed contracted quality and milestones delivery.
- May lead the start-up of large and complex global programs and complex domestic or international programs.
Project Revenue
- Reviews and approves monthly revenue recognition and forecasts for accuracy and completeness on given projects - this is a shared responsibility with the Business Manager.
- Ensures Project Managers fully trained on Revenue Recognition Tools.
Project Profitability
- Ensures Project Managers are taking appropriate action to maintain project profitability - this is a shared responsibility with the Business Manager.
- Supports Project Managers in identifying and taking action on potential Change In Scopes - this is a shared responsibility with the Business Manager.
- Supports Project Managers in internal discussions where required with Operations to solve resource/cost issues - this is a shared responsibility with the Business Manager.
Project Cash Flow
- Ensures Project Managers take appropriate and timely action to invoice their projects.
- Ensuring any issues around cash flow are resolved - this is a shared responsibility with the Business Manager.
Proposals
- May actively participate in proposal development teams, review proposals for scope & resourcing as needed / supporting PACE Business Management.
- Support Project Managers for client bid defence meetings as appropriate.
- Attend bid defence meetings as required.
Client Satisfaction
- Works with Project Managers and Operations to improve Client Satisfaction.
- Attend client meetings as appropriate.
Reporting
- Provide monthly management reports.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous industry related experience specifically in project management in a Clinical Research Organisation field
- Working knowledge of Peri-Approval projects/understanding of marketing environment desirable
- Previous line management responsibilities, preferably of a project management team
- Must have strong clinical research experience; general knowledge of the key factors involved in effectively servicing and managing the relationship with pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology companies
- A record of demonstrable personal achievement with proven management and leadership skills
- Ability to manage large, complex projects and develop cross-functional support
- Team player with outstanding inter-personal, negotiation skills and organisational skills
- Excellent stakeholder/relationship management
- Able to role model behaviours and ethics
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, (including experience in making presentations at conferences, meetings, training sessions.)
- Client focused approach to work
- A flexible attitude with respect to work assignments, new learning and travel
- Ability to manage multiple and varied tasks with enthusiasm, and prioritise workload with attention to detail
- Willingness to work with multiple supervisors in a matrix environment, and to value the importance of team work
IT literate – Experience with Microsoft based applications and general knowledge of PC functions
- Fluent in English (read, written, spoken) in addition to local language
